Our Home-Away-From-Home!

Hello readers! Simon and Jenny here to tell you all about our wonderful home-away-from-home for the next week: La Casa Mariposa.

Apparently it's really sunny in Arizona!
(L-R: Michelle, Emma, Autumn, Nathan)

Situated in the quaint neighborhood of Armory Park in Tucson, AZ, Casa Mariposa has four permanent residents, and open rooms available to activists and people just released from detention facilities across Arizona. Casa Mariposa is part of an intentional community that seeks to, "nourished and empowered by the spirit, live in right relationship with one another the community and the earth, through hospitality, peaceful and prophetic action, simple and sustainable living, and playful spirituality."

This is Rachel, one of our group leaders. She lives at Casa Mariposa year-round.

It is truly a beautiful space: fully furnished, with a beautiful screened-in porch, a cozy living room, and copious amounts of EXCELLENT organic food.

Simon eagerly shares his phone number with the group.

As a side note, the backyard houses some adorable chickens and two dogs (Houston and Rocket).

*Shout-out to McKinley for these BEAUTIFUL pictures!

Meet the Bloggers

Autumn Anderson: A sophomore from Erie, PA, Autumn is an international studies major with a transnational focus. She tried to buy pepper spray at Walmart (Why? "For kicks!") last night but couldn't find it.

Simon Golovcsenko: A first-year from Lexington, MA, Simon is currently undeclared but considering a sociology major. He is very tired from not sleeping last night.

Emma Lewis: A sophomore from Arlington, MA, Emma is a sociology major and art minor. She was happy to have her favorite melon -- honeydew -- for breakfast.

Michelle Dunavant: A senior from Memphis, TN, Michelle is a Chinese/Asian studies major. Her luggage is full of research for her comps.

Jenny Ruymann: A first-year from Medford, NJ, Jenny is probably going to be a sociology/drama double major (yikes!). She would like to recommend "Naked" orange juice to all our readers.

Maggie Boelter: A sophomore from Parkersburg, WV-- five minutes from Ohio -- Maggie is a sociology major. She forgot to pack socks.

Nathan Marcus: A senior from Cumberland, ME, Nathan is a history major and an anthropology minor. He once had to beat otters away from his kayak.

McKinley Sherrod: A sophomore from Chicago, IL, McKinley is a sociology major with a women's and gender studies concentration.  She wrote all of these bios.
